Define Securables

Securables can be configured for applications with Authorization or Multi-tenancy.

There are two types of Securables: Standard and Runtime.  Both are defined in your product’s code.

Runtime Securables are a special type of Securable built in to some—but not all—applications. The list of Runtime Securables will change to accommodate changes Users make within the application, as Apprenda creates or deletes Runtime Securables as needed in the “Runtime” Securables section of the Account Portal.  Developers define how these behave in their code, and there is no need for the Developer to accommodate these changes via the Developer Portal.

Standard Securables will not change unless you make changes to your application’s code through the release of a new version of the software.  Standard Securables require Securable tokens created in the Developer Portal so that they can then be assigned in the Account Portal.

As a short-cut for the initial upload of a Deployment Archive, Securable tokens will be populated automatically based on the Standard Securables defined in the DeploymentManifest.xml file

For all subsequent uploads and patches, you will need to update the DeploymentManifest.xml file or update Securable tokens manually to correspond with changes made in the code.

To add or update Securable tokens manually: In the Additional Controls section of the Developer Portal, navigate to the appropriate Version Overview page and click on the Definition icon in the upper right corner. This will take you to the Version Application Definitions page. Click on the Securables icon in the submenu in the upper right to go to the Version Securables page:

In the Securables List table to the right, you will see the Standard Securables automatically populated when you first uploaded your Deployment Archive.  You can use the New Securable box on the left to create a Securable token for a Standard Securable added in a later upload or patch.  Simply supply the name of the Securable as it appears in your code, add a description, and click the Create Securable button.  Your new Securable token will now appear in the Securable List to the right.

To delete an existing Securable token, simply click on the red box containing the white “X” to the right of the Securable that you wish to delete.  Click “Yes” on the confirmation prompt to complete the process.

To edit an existing Securable token, click on the paper-and-pencil icon to the right of the Securable you wish to edit.  This will generate editable fields that will allow you to make and save changes to the Securable’s name and description.
